The 5th Global Motion Acupuncture Medical Team Induction Ceremony and Academic Conference Concludes Successfully

[New York] On January 19, 2025, the “5th Global Motion Acupuncture Medical Team Induction Ceremony and Academic Exchange Conference for Motion Acupuncture Therapy” successfully concluded online. The event was jointly organized by the U.S.-based De Yi Tang clinic, the Canadian Motion Acupuncture Therapy Training Center, and China’s QH Qihuang Network. The ceremony and conference were held via Zoom and simultaneously live-streamed on Qihuang Network in China.

The Global Medical Team for Motion Acupuncture Therapy (hereinafter referred to as the “Medical Team”) was initiated by China’s Qihuang Network in 2021 and selects its members from Motion Acupuncture Therapy trainees worldwide.

Currently, the fifth round of online training courses for Motion Acupuncture Therapy in the U.S. and Canada has concluded. After a rigorous selection and review process, a total of 31 trainees’ applications for Medical Team membership were approved. These include 11 members from the United States, 11 from Canada, 8 from China, and 1 from Germany, who have officially joined the “Global Medical Team for Motion Acupuncture Therapy” as the fifth cohort. Qihuang Network’s General Manager, Ou Bin, presented qualification certificates to the 31 new members of the Global Medical Team.

This cohort of Motion Acupuncture Therapy training classes comprised the first to fifth online sessions, spanning from December 2023 to October 2024 over 11 months. Each session lasted 12 hours, totaling 60 hours of training. All inducted members underwent systematic Motion Acupuncture Therapy training provided by Master Chen Decheng and his team.

Guests attending the induction ceremony included Professor Wang Fuchun, a lifetime professor at Changchun University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, doctoral supervisor, and Qihuang Scholar recognized as a national leader in Chinese medicine; Mr. Ou Bin, General Manager of QH Qihuang Network (www.qihuanghealthcare.cn); Professor Yang Guanhu, President of the American Society of Collateral Disease and faculty member at Ohio University College of Medicine; Dr. Chen Decheng, inventor of Motion Acupuncture Therapy and researcher at New York’s DeYiTang Institute; along with the new team members and other traditional Chinese medicine practitioners. The ceremony was live-streamed via Qihuang Network, with hundreds of participants joining online. The event was hosted by Dr. Wang Qian from Canada.

Motion Acupuncture Therapy, pioneered by Dr. Chen Decheng, is an innovative acupuncture technique consisting of five components: Motion Points, Motion Needles, Motion Techniques, Motion Dynamics and Motion Principles. This therapy integrates traditional acupuncture theories and techniques with modern knowledge in anatomy, histology, fascia studies, kinesiology, and muscular physiology and dynamics. Its aim is to stimulate and release soft tissues through needle application, thereby promoting the body’s self-healing process to prevent and treat diseases. Motion Acupuncture Therapy is renowned for its simplicity in point selection, precision in treatment, and rapid efficacy.

The Motion Acupuncture Needle, invented by Dr. Chen Decheng, is a patented acupuncture instrument characterized by its beveled and helical needle body structure. It is applied to Motion Points, which are identified using the “Three-Step & One-Process” method. Special techniques such as retention and lifting of the needle are employed, combined with guided needle-assisted movement performed by the patient under the practitioner’s instruction. The therapy follows a three-step process: “identifying the points as the foundation, needle application as the key, and motion as the core”. This approach aids in repairing pathological fascia, relaxing muscles, and realigning joints. Motion Acupuncture Therapy is primarily used to treat soft tissue injuries, chronic pain, joint issues, motor dysfunction, and related visceral diseases. The book “Motion Acupuncture Therapy“, published in 2020 by the People’s Medical Publishing House, has received widespread acclaim from experts and practitioners both domestically and internationally.

The first speaker at the induction ceremony was Mr. Ou Bin, General Manager of Qihuang Network. He began by summarizing the significant progress made in 2024 regarding the development of Motion Acupuncture Therapy through the Qihuang Network platform. For example, Motion Acupuncture Therapy has been introduced to over a dozen hospitals across various provinces and cities in China, including both public and private institutions, ranging from top-tier hospitals to grassroots facilities. Additionally, the Shaanxi Provincial Health Commission incorporated Motion Acupuncture Therapy as part of its medical aid program for Africa, signifying the therapy’s expanding reach to new countries and regions. Mr. Ou also shared the development plans for Motion Acupuncture Therapy in 2025, emphasizing close collaboration with Professor Chen Decheng to enhance the training system. These plans include expanding the apprenticeship program, launching training salons, standardizing related fee structures and insurance coding, establishing renowned practitioner studios and training bases, and offering targeted cost reductions for acquiring Motion Acupuncture tools for specific groups of doctors. Mr. Ou concluded by wishing the event great success.

The next speaker was Professor Wang Fuchun, a lifetime professor at Changchun University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, doctoral supervisor, and a Qihuang Scholar recognized as a national leader in Chinese medicine. Professor Wang began by reflecting on his past experiences with Professor Chen Decheng, recalling Chen’s academic journey and stating, “We share both the bond of teacher and student and the camaraderie of brothers.”

Professor Wang highly praised Motion Acupuncture Therapy, acknowledging its unique qualities and emphasizing the distinctiveness of Professor Chen’s guiding principle: “Point identification is the foundation, needle application is the key, and motion is the core.” He highlighted the uniqueness of the Motion Needle invented by Professor Chen, noting that the intensity of the needle sensation it generates differs significantly from that of standard acupuncture tools.

Professor Wang cited an example from December 2024, when Dr. Chen delivered a keynote report and case demonstrations on Motion Acupuncture Therapy at the 3rd World Conference on Traditional Chinese Medicine and Technology in Changchun. The sessions were packed, and the atmosphere was vibrant, showcasing the remarkable efficacy of Motion Acupuncture Therapy and its widespread acclaim among medical professionals.

In addition, Professor Wang announced plans to host a Motion Acupuncture Therapy training course in Changchun this June and expressed his intention to include Motion Acupuncture Therapy as a specialized acupuncture technique in the upcoming revision of Acupuncture and Moxibustion Techniques, a textbook for traditional Chinese medicine colleges. This demonstrates Professor Wang’s strong endorsement of Motion Acupuncture Therapy and its future in the academic and clinical realms.

The third speaker was Professor Yang Guanhu, President of the American Society of Collateral Disease and Vice President of the American Society of Chinese Medicine. Professor Yang began by reflecting on his collaborative discussions with Dr. Chen Decheng regarding Motion Acupuncture Therapy. Together, they have co-authored multiple articles on the topic in both Chinese and English, and Professor Yang personally contributed to the compilation of “Motion Acupuncture Therapy“. Professor Yang emphasized the significant benefits of promoting Motion Acupuncture Therapy on a global scale, particularly in enriching acupuncture treatment methods. From a professional perspective, he offered several hopes and suggestions for the future development of the therapy. These included the need to accumulate a substantial number of clinical cases, conduct research to summarize the advantages and applicable conditions of Motion Acupuncture Therapy, and publish findings in SCI-indexed journals to establish a strong academic foundation.

Dr. Yu Hongkui, a representative member of the fifth cohort of the Motion Acupuncture Therapy Global Medical Team, expressed heartfelt gratitude to Professor Chen Decheng for his dedicated training. Through clinical practice, Dr. Yu has gained a deeper understanding of Motion Acupuncture Therapy. He shared his experience of being dispatched to work at the Affiliated Dingxi Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital of Changchun University of Traditional Chinese Medicine for over two months. During this time, he applied Motion Acupuncture Therapy to relieve the pain of local residents, including those suffering from long-term ailments lasting over a decade. With the help of Motion Acupuncture Therapy, Dr. Yu quickly built a considerable patient base in the area and was awarded six banners in recognition of his contributions. Dr. Yu concluded his speech by expressing his deep appreciation once again to Professor Chen and reaffirming his determination to vigorously promote Motion Acupuncture Therapy.

Finally, Professor Chen Decheng, the inventor of Motion Acupuncture Therapy, reviewed the development of the therapy on the Qihuang Network platform and congratulated the 31 new members of the Global Medical Team. He expressed his gratitude for the high praise and recognition from Professor Wang Fuchun and Professor Yang Guanhu regarding Motion Acupuncture Therapy. Professor Chen emphasized that after five years of global dissemination, Motion Acupuncture Therapy has gained widespread acceptance in the field of traditional Chinese acupuncture. He noted that the most important task now is to cultivate more talent, especially individuals with clinical skills in Motion Acupuncture Therapy. He also shared some specific plans for developing a talent pipeline for Motion Acupuncture Therapy, with a hierarchical system that includes “trainees, team members, apprentices, and disciples.” This year, there are plans to recruit apprentices for Motion Acupuncture Therapy, combining online and offline courses to rapidly train skilled professionals proficient in the therapy. Through small-group training, the aim is to enhance the clinical diagnostic and treatment skills of acupuncturists, benefiting the public and contributing to the efficient use of national public healthcare resources.

After the speeches, Mr. Ou Bin, General Manager of Qihuang Network, presented the membership certificates to the 31 new members of the fifth cohort of the Motion Acupuncture Therapy Global Medical Team. Following the certificate presentation, Teaching Assistant Jessie Chen conducted an online demonstration of the official DeYiTang institute website and the Qihuang Network website for the new members. After the demonstration, all attendees gathered for a group photo to commemorate the event.

After the ceremony, the academic exchange session began. Dr. Lu Min, a licensed acupuncturist from Maryland, USA, and a doctoral student in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) acupuncture, who graduated from Tsinghua University, was the keynote speaker. Her presentation was titled “Experiences in Treating Trigger Finger with Motion Acupuncture Therapy.” Dr. Lu Min used vivid language to provide an in-depth yet accessible analysis of a case of trigger finger she treated. She showcased the entire treatment process using videos, images, and other media. Professor Wang Fuchun provided comments, emphasizing that Motion Acupuncture Therapy is an extension and application of the meridian theory based on traditional Chinese medicine, following the academic spirit of “combining the ancient and the modern, with profound virtue and refined skills.” He encouraged the expansion of the therapy’s indications and the application of meridian theory, particularly highlighting the need for research on its use in treating internal organ diseases.

Professor Yang Guanhu also shared his insights, noting that long-term follow-up should be conducted for trigger finger cases. He emphasized the importance of standardizing treatment protocols for Motion Acupuncture Therapy, focusing on the details of diagnosis and treatment. He also discussed the advantages of needle-assisted movement in the therapy for functional recovery and pain relief, offering perspectives from both TCM and Western medicine. Additionally, Professor Yang encouraged the collection and sharing of more Motion Acupuncture Therapy case studies, stressing the importance of compiling clinical data to further advance the development of Motion Acupuncture Therapy.

At the end of the conference, Professor Chen Decheng began by expressing his gratitude for the insightful comments provided by the two professors. He acknowledged that Motion Acupuncture Therapy has indeed shown promising results in treating internal medicine diseases. He fully supported Professor Yang Guanhu’s suggestions and encouraged the new team members to actively collect case studies, emphasizing the importance of both individual case reports and the reporting of aggregated data from multiple cases.

Professor Chen also pointed out that for treating trigger finger, the Motion Points are often located on the forearm, and it is essential to have a solid understanding of the function and anatomy of the muscles involved in finger flexion and extension.

Lastly, Professor Chen addressed the questions raised by the attendees in great detail, offering thorough and thoughtful answers.

As of now, there are 168 members of the Motion Acupuncture Therapy Global Medical Team, spread across the Americas, Europe, Asia, and Australia.
