NEW YORK, July 26, 2026 — The “Fascia Science and Motion Acupuncture Medicine for Pain Management Workshop”, organized by the American TCM Acupuncture Inheritance Association (ATCMAIA), was successfully held in New York on July 25–26, 2026. The two-day program featured joint instruction by Professor Carla Stecco, internationally renowned fascia anatomist, orthopedic surgeon, and Professor of Anatomy at the University of Padova, Italy, together with Dr. Decheng Chen, inventor of Motion Acupuncture and founder of Motion Acupuncture Medicine. Following two intensive and inspiring days of lectures and hands-on training, the workshop concluded successfully on July 26.

Pain disorders remain one of the world’s leading health challenges, affecting approximately 20–30% of the global population. The majority of chronic pain conditions are closely associated with soft tissue injuries involving the fascia, muscles, tendons, ligaments, and joints. In recent years, rapid advances in fascia research have significantly expanded our understanding of pain mechanisms and treatment strategies. Motion Acupuncture Medicine integrates modern fascia science with precise acupuncture techniques and functional movement, offering an innovative clinical approach to the management of musculoskeletal pain.

The first day of the workshop was led by Professor Carla Stecco, one of the world’s foremost authorities in fascia anatomy and physiology. Drawing upon her extensive clinical and anatomical expertise, Professor Stecco presented the latest international developments in fascia research and explained the critical role of fascia in human movement, posture, and the development of chronic pain. She also introduced the theoretical principles and clinical applications of Fascial Manipulation®, followed by live demonstrations of fascial treatment techniques and interactive discussions with participants. Her presentations provided attendees with a deeper understanding of modern fascia science while highlighting new possibilities for integrating fascia research with Motion Acupuncture Medicine.

President Chen Decheng presented the “Fascia and Acupuncture Contribution Award” certificate to Professor Carla Stecco.

Professor Stecco is internationally recognized as a pioneer in fascia anatomy and physiology. Her research has significantly advanced scientific understanding of connective tissue structure, function, and its role in pain and movement. She has published more than 260 peer-reviewed scientific papers, authored several landmark textbooks on Fascial Manipulation®, translated into 11 languages, and published the world’s first comprehensive anatomical atlas of the human fascia through Elsevier. Her work has had a profound impact on orthopedics, rehabilitation medicine, sports medicine, physical therapy, and manual medicine worldwide.

The second day featured lectures and practical demonstrations by Dr. Decheng Chen, who systematically introduced the theoretical framework, diagnostic principles, and clinical applications of Motion Acupuncture Medicine in pain management. He demonstrated the core needling techniques of Motion Acupuncture, with special emphasis on the evaluation and treatment of the clinically significant “Four Devil Muscles,” including precise anatomical localization, functional assessment, and therapeutic procedures. The combination of theory and hands-on demonstrations received enthusiastic praise from all participants.

Dr. Decheng Chen is the inventor of Motion Acupuncture and the founder of Motion Acupuncture Medicine. Building upon the traditional Chinese medical concept of treating the tendino-muscular system (“treating the Jin”), he has integrated modern fascia science, functional muscle anatomy, biomechanics, and movement assessment into a distinctive acupuncture system. Dr. Chen has authored more than 20 books on acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine, including Motion Acupuncture Medicine, and has published over 100 scientific papers.

The core clinical philosophy of Motion Acupuncture Medicine is summarized as: “Precise Point Selection, Effective Needling, and Movement as the Core.” The system emphasizes accurate identification of pathological soft tissues, specialized needling techniques, and the integration of dynamic needle retention with functional movement exercises to release fascial tension, improve muscle function, restore joint mobility, and enhance neuromuscular coordination. Over the years, Dr. Chen has actively promoted Motion Acupuncture Medicine through international teaching and clinical training programs, contributing significantly to the integration of Traditional Chinese Medicine with modern musculoskeletal medicine and fascia science.

Throughout the two-day workshop, participants gained not only a comprehensive understanding of the latest advances in fascia science but also practical mastery of the core techniques of Motion Acupuncture Medicine for pain management. Attendees agreed that fascial pathology plays a fundamental role in the development of many pain disorders and that the remarkable clinical effectiveness of Motion Acupuncture lies in its ability to precisely target pathological fascia and related soft tissues. In particular, its unique Extreme Traction Technique rapidly restores fascial tension balance, improves muscular biomechanics, enhances joint mobility, and facilitates both immediate pain relief and functional recovery.

The successful completion of this workshop established an important international platform for academic exchange between modern fascia science and Traditional Chinese Medicine. More importantly, it further strengthened the integration of contemporary fascia research with Motion Acupuncture Medicine, providing new momentum for the future development of pain medicine and the global advancement of acupuncture.

During the workshop, Dr. Decheng Chen also performed live demonstration treatments on volunteer participants, showcasing the immediate clinical effects of Motion Acupuncture through before-and-after functional comparisons.
