“The Cradle of Divine Doctors”–A news report on “2025 New York Motion Acupuncture Practical Training Workshop”

[New York Report]

On January 11–12, 2025, at the start of the new year, the “Motion Acupuncture Advanced Practical Training Course,” hosted by the American Society for the Preservation of Traditional Chinese Acupuncture and led by Dr. Decheng Chen, the inventor of Motion Acupuncture Theory, was held with great success in Flushing, New York.

This exclusive training course was designed as a small-class hands-on workshop, and registration demand was overwhelming. Initially limited to 50 participants, the event ultimately accommodated 54 attendees in person, along with 10 participants joining via live online streaming, for a total of 64 trainees.

The training featured high-quality bilingual instruction in both Chinese and English, with simultaneous interpretation provided by Diana Cao, a seasoned Chinese medicine interpreter based in New York. This allowed English-speaking participants to follow along with ease and fully enjoy the experience.

Participants came from various regions, including California on the West Coast, Florida in the South, Washington, D.C., on the East Coast, as well as Canadian cities such as Ottawa and Vancouver. Braving long distances, harsh weather, and winter storms, they arrived in New York with passionate hearts and a shared goal: to master the art of Motion Acupuncture Technique!

The two-day Motion Acupuncture practice course was thoughtfully structured. On the first day, the focus was on the unique needling techniques and treatments for upper body conditions. The second day covered the mechanism of action behind Motion Acupuncture Needling and its applications for lower body ailments.

For each key muscle group, Dr. Decheng Chen randomly selected participants from the audience who had relevant conditions to demonstrate the technique and perform live treatments. Participants enthusiastically volunteered, and the room frequently erupted with applause and cheers.

Dr. Chen’s method for selecting demonstration subjects was based on a voluntary system, allowing individuals to come forward for treatment. Among the volunteers, the one with the most severe condition was identified through pain assessments and dynamic evaluations conducted on-site. Each patient treated by Dr. Chen experienced varying levels of improvement, leaving the attendees amazed by the effectiveness of the technique.

Among the participants, there were various conditions: from neck pain causing difficulty in lifting or lowering the head, to frozen shoulder leading to shoulder joint pain and the inability to raise the arm; from lower back pain preventing bending or straightening, to knee pain making squatting impossible. Dr. Chen patiently and meticulously addressed each issue one by one.

For instance, one participant with severe neck pain experienced significant limitations in tilting their head backward, forward, or rotating it to the left. After just a few Motion Acupuncture treatments, the neck pain disappeared immediately, and full functionality was restored. See the image below for reference:

Another participant suffered from knee pain caused by a meniscus injury that had persisted for 17 years without improvement. She shared her experience:

“I have had pain on the inner side of my left knee for 17 years. Back in 2008, I slipped on ice and injured my knee. An MRI revealed a partial meniscus tear. Over the years, the pain has recurred frequently, and I’ve been unable to fully squat, which has significantly affected my Tai Chi practice. Yesterday, Dr. Chen used just three motion acpuncture needles to relieve my long-standing condition. I was immediately able to squat fully without pain, and my knee felt light and comfortable. Dr. Chen’s invention of motion acupuncture technique, is a miraculous and effective therapy 💪. Thank you, Dr. Chen 🙏!”

During the treatment, she noted that not only was her knee pain significantly relieved and her squatting motion greatly improved, but unexpectedly, the range of motion in her lower back also increased noticeably—she could almost touch the floor with her hands when bending over. This was something she had never imagined possible. With just three needles, a condition that had persisted for over a decade was resolved.

Another participant with lower back pain had limitations in both forward bending and backward extension, along with uneven shoulders, leg length discrepancy, pelvic tilt, and scoliosis. Dr. Chen first applied motion acupuncture technique to her psoas muscle, and immediately, her ability to extend her lower back improved. He then used two more needles to treat the muscles in her lower back, and as a result, her ability to bend forward also showed immediate improvement. See the image below for reference:

She excitedly shared her feedback:

“Please forgive my delayed sharing. I am incredibly fortunate to have received two comprehensive treatments from Dr. Chen during the in-person lessons and clinical observation day. On the first day, I received treatment for uneven shoulders—my left shoulder was higher than my right, and my pelvis tilted with the left side lower than the right. Before treatment, the muscles around my left scapula, including the levator scapulae and trapezius, were extremely painful and sensitive to touch. After treatment, my left shoulder dropped immediately and was almost level with the right shoulder. The effect was very obvious. The next day, pressing on the previously painful spots showed much less sensitivity. Interestingly, my right shoulder was higher than the left one after treatment [covers face]. (Personally, I think the right shoulder also needs attention, as neither of my shoulders naturally rises on their own. As Dr. Chen said, it’s not a one-time fix, and it needs to be adjusted little by little [grinning].)

On the second day, the focus was on treating my rhinitis and excess phlegm. I finally experienced the powerful effects of the new acupoint and the area behind the temples that everyone talks about. After needling, there was a slight electric sensation on one side, but mostly a feeling of fullness. My nose has often been runny with temperature changes recently, but since the treatment yesterday, it has been dry and clear—amazing!

In addition to witnessing so many instant results during the in-person class, which greatly boosted my confidence in Motion Acupuncture technique, my biggest gain was finally understanding what extreme lifting (the ‘limit lift’) really means, something that online lessons couldn’t truly convey. Dr. Chen was so patient in explaining each point in detail and guiding us, which was deeply impressive. I am so grateful to have met Dr. Chen and to have learned about Motion Acupuncture!”

The most incredible case was that of a participant who was experiencing severe pain in the right shoulder. With the cold weather, the shoulder joint pain had worsened significantly, and he had difficulty with forward flexion, abduction, and extension of the arm. After receiving motion acupuncture treatment from Dr. Chen, a miracle happened—his arm movement returned to normal. On the third day, before leaving, he told Dr. Chen that his shoulder was completely pain-free and there were no issues left.

There were many more cases, all showing immediate results. Every participant present witnessed the miraculous effects of Motion Acupuncture Needling! The trainees universally reported that after learning Motion Acupuncture Needling, they felt like they had transformed into “miracle healers.” The training course was described as a cradle for nurturing “miracle healers.” Following this, several more “miracles” were witnessed, further proving the incredible effectiveness of the technique.

The students gave enthusiastic feedback, with praises pouring in. Dr. Xiujuan Sun from California shared her experience:

“Thanks to Dr. Chen’s compassion and thoughtfulness, as well as the help from fellow classmates, I was the lucky one who received the most needling during this in-person class. First, the scalene and levator scapulae muscles helped resolve the limited range of motion in my neck, including forward flexion, backward extension, and lateral rotation. The next day, I noticed that the swelling in my scalene muscles, which had troubled me for years, had significantly reduced.

The issues in my lower back were even more severe. After Dr. Chen used Motion Acupuncture Needling to release my psoas, iliopsoas, trochanteric muscles, pes anserinus, and quadratus lumborum, I was able to bend forward and touch the ground in front of everyone, and extend backward to look at the sky. Movement is key! During the treatment, the moment when limited movement shifted to unlimited movement—just that 0.5 seconds—was one of the keys to the release, and the needling movement was essential.

The more miraculous event came when I returned to California. The very first patient I treated had lower back pain caused by heavy lifting. He walked slowly because his legs couldn’t come together, and bending his lower body intensified the pain. After assessing the quadratus lumborum and psoas muscles, which were the primary culprits, I located the motion acupuncture points and essentially replicated the exact treatment that Dr. Chen had used on me. After the treatment, with the needling movement, the patient felt 90% better immediately. There’s just a little left to treat next time. I’m so happy!

Such miraculous results were unimaginable before attending this in-person class, and it was entirely thanks to this course. Without hesitation, I’ve already signed up for the small class. I will continue learning and treating, and I’ll see you next month in New York!

Additionally, this in-person class helped me resolve the issue I had with the needles I bought but didn’t know how to use—specifically, I lacked the confidence in the depth and technique. The details really do need to be taught hands-on. Once again, I am grateful to Dr. Chen and all my classmates for their care and support.”

Dr. Min Lu from Maryland shared her experience:

“Thank you, Dr. Chen, for your teachings over the past three days. I’ve learned so much, not only the methods and techniques of Motion Acupuncture Needling but also how to apply and treat in clinical practice through observation and diagnosis. Today, I experienced firsthand how to use the four diagnostic methods—inspection, auscultation, palpation, and inquiry—leading to a comprehensive diagnosis. Following cases and learning from them is so important. I’m deeply touched by the detailed analysis of each case and the thought process you shared with us. This was an invaluable experience, and I’m so grateful. I can’t wait for the small class in February!”

Dr. Jing Cao from Virginia also shared her experience with Motion Acupuncture Needling:

“Let me share a case I just treated using Motion Acupuncture Needling: I performed a treatment on a patient with a psoas muscle injury and severe limitation in lumbar extension. During dynamic testing, there was noticeable tenderness and a hard nodule on the right side of the abdomen near the psoas muscle. I treated the psoas muscle with two 3-inch needles, and after performing needle-insertion exercises on the bed, the patient’s lumbar extension improved significantly, and the pain completely disappeared. The patient was astonished and exclaimed, ‘This is the most effective pain treatment I’ve ever had!’ Both the patient and I were thrilled.

I’m grateful to Dr. Chen for personally demonstrating the needle technique for one of the ‘devil muscles,’ the psoas muscle, during this in-person class. It gave me the confidence to treat this difficult muscle, and the results were immediate! However, I still feel unsure about the depth and angle of the needle insertion—I’m afraid it might be too deep and cause pain or too shallow to be effective. I’m looking forward to the clinical practice course in February to continue learning from Dr. Chen, further improving my skills, and enhancing the efficiency of clinical treatments. Thank you, Dr. Chen, for teaching us such an effective technique—it works the moment you use it. Anyone who tries it will understand! ❤️❤️🙏🙏”

More shares continued to pour in. Dr. Jianfeng Zheng from New York shared his experience:

“Yesterday, I treated several patients using Motion Acupuncture Needling. The results were indeed very good. Several patients with knee joint pain showed significant improvement. For some, I even asked them to move their knees on the bed during treatment. See the video. I’m grateful to Dr. Chen for introducing the Motion Acupuncture therapy!”

Dr. Jing Cao also shared her feedback:

“Yesterday, during the shadowing session at Dr. Chen’s clinic, I performed needling on the Xin Wu and Taiyang Hou points for a patient. Can I share your experience after the needling? After I performed the Xin Wu needling, the patient immediately felt an electric, numbing sensation. What did you feel at that moment?

By the way, here’s a little side story: This patient was our hospital’s Vice President of Administration (a Colonel in the Army). After experiencing and witnessing the miraculous effects of Motion Acupuncture Needling, he developed a newfound respect for traditional Chinese acupuncture and praised it greatly. He even mentioned that many more patients will be referred for acupuncture in the future! Motion Acupuncture Needling has really earned me a lot of prestige—I’m feeling quite proud! 😌😌😏😏

On Monday, January 13, ten students came to our Manhattan clinic for a shadowing and observation internship.”

Further guidance was provided on addressing high and low shoulder issues, and the results were immediate.

After 2-3 days of Motion Acupuncture practical training, the students left with a wealth of knowledge, feeling elated. They all expressed that Dr. Chen’s course was incredibly valuable, and they appreciated how Dr. Chen empowered them to take the technique home while leaving the pain and suffering of illness behind. They unanimously agreed that Motion Acupuncture Needling is truly “easy to learn, effective right away, and beneficial for a lifetime!”

Dr. Jiusong Kan, a senior Chinese medicine practitioner from New York, spontaneously composed a poem during the training session, expressing the shared sentiment of the group: “We don’t seek eternal youth, but wish for the cure of a hundred ailments.”
