— Prof. Decheng Chen’s Advanced Motion Acupuncture Course Concludes Successfully at Chang Chun University of TCM

To promote the inheritance and innovation of acupuncture techniques in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), advance the distinctive clinical application of Motion Acupuncture, and enhance the clinical capabilities of practitioners in acupuncture and rehabilitation both domestically and internationally, the Advanced Motion Acupuncture Training Course—jointly organized by the Jilin Acupuncture Society and the School of Acupuncture and Tuina, Changchun University of Chinese Medicine—was successfully held from April 11 to 12 at Changchun University of Chinese Medicine.

The course featured a comprehensive curriculum integrating both theoretical instruction and hands-on clinical practice, attracting participants from diverse professional backgrounds, including acupuncture, rehabilitation, orthopedics, and physical therapy, as well as acupuncture enthusiasts from across China and abroad.

Notably, this training welcomed several international participants from the United States, Switzerland, Thailand, and Malaysia, reflecting the growing global recognition and influence of Motion Acupuncture therapy. Participants expressed high satisfaction with the course, and Prof. Decheng Chen’s teaching received unanimous praise.

Building Strong Foundations, Advancing Disease-Oriented Learning to Elevate Clinical Practice

The training was content-rich and highly practical. Centered on the “Five Core Principles” and the “Three-Step, One-Flow” point-selection method of Motion Acupuncture, Prof. Decheng Chen delivered a structured, disease-oriented lecture, systematically addressing common conditions of the head, neck, and upper extremities.

Through the integration of anatomical videos and real clinical cases, he highlighted key concepts including needling sensation, tissue-layer precision, and safe needle application—bridging theory with clinical practice.

A key highlight was his in-depth explanation of the relationship between needle sensation and tissue layers, enabling practitioners to accurately locate the needle tip within different anatomical structures and optimize treatment outcomes. Drawing from years of clinical experience, Prof. Chen emphasized that mastering this principle is fundamental to effective acupuncture practice, regardless of technique or needle type.

 

Distinct from previous anatomy-centered trainings, this course introduced a disease-oriented teaching model for the first time. It provided in-depth instruction on common upper-body conditions, including headaches, hearing loss and tinnitus, temporomandibular joint disorders (TMJ), trigeminal neuralgia, “buffalo hump,” frozen shoulder, tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow, tenosynovitis, and trigger finger.

This innovative approach enabled participants to more readily identify key diagnostic “entry points” in clinical practice, significantly enhancing their ability in pattern differentiation and treatment planning.

 

Hands-On Mastery: Strengthening Clinical Skills Through Practical Training

Motion Acupuncture is a technique highly dependent on clinical skill. During the hands-on training session, Prof. Decheng Chen, together with five senior disciples, guided participants through small-group practice, providing direct, one-on-one instruction and real-time correction.

Through immersive, hands-on experience, participants quickly mastered key Motion Acupuncture techniques targeting the head and neck, as well as the shoulder, elbow, and wrist regions—achieving a dual advancement in both theoretical understanding and practical skills.

 

Through intensive hands-on training, participants not only learned precise point selection and safe needle insertion, but also mastered key techniques such as movement with the needle and retained-needle lifting methods. This approach truly achieved the goal of “learn it, master it, and apply it immediately in clinical practice.”

Three Key Highlights Driving Clinical Excellence: Bringing Motion Acupuncture to the World

This training highlighted three key strengths:

Innovative Teaching Model: Breaking away from traditional anatomy-centered instruction, the course introduced a disease-oriented approach, enabling participants to learn, apply, and achieve clinical results immediately.

Integration of Theory and Practice: Through intensive lectures and immersive hands-on training, participants strengthened their clinical foundation, achieving the goal of “learn it quickly, apply it effectively.”

Strong International Engagement: With participants from multiple countries, the program further advanced Motion Acupuncture—an original Chinese acupuncture innovation—onto the global stage.

This training not only cultivated a group of clinically competent practitioners with strong diagnostic and treatment skills, but also significantly contributed to the international dissemination and innovative development of acupuncture within Traditional Chinese Medicine.

[Background Information]

Dr. Decheng Chen is the founder of Motion Acupuncture therapy and the inventor of the Motion Acupuncture Needle, holding two invention patents related to this technique. In 2023, he was recognized as a representative inheritor in the “Hundred Talents, Hundred Projects” initiative for overseas Chinese in Traditional Chinese Medicine in Beijing.

Dr. Chen has published over 20 academic monographs on acupuncture, including Motion Acupuncture Therapy, and has authored more than 100 scholarly papers. His academic approach integrates traditional meridian and sinew theory with modern anatomy, fascial science, and kinesiology, earning him broad recognition and influence in the acupuncture community both in China and internationally.
