[Stockholm, Sweden] — In the golden autumn of September 2025, against the picturesque backdrop of Northern Europe, the 2025 International Acupuncture Symposium, hosted by the World Federation of Acupuncture-Moxibustion Societies (WFAS), was grandly held in Gothenburg, Sweden. This academic feast brought together leading acupuncture experts, scholars, and clinicians from more than 40 countries and regions worldwide to discuss the latest frontiers and innovative developments in the field of acupuncture.
At this world-class academic event, renowned acupuncture expert Dr. Decheng Chen, together with his team member and PhD candidate Jessie Chen, presented a special session on the Motion Acupuncture therapy. With its profound academic foundation and remarkable clinical outcomes, the presentation became one of the most highly anticipated highlights of the conference.

The theme of the 2025 International Acupuncture Symposium in Sweden was “Acupuncture and Global Public Health,” with a special focus on the role of acupuncture in chronic disease management and mental health. This symposium is the annual international academic conference on traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture organized by the World Federation of Acupuncture-Moxibustion Societies (WFAS). Since its inception in 1987, it has been successfully held more than 30 times and has become the most influential academic event in the field of acupuncture worldwide.
The conference invited the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine as a guiding unit, as well as academicians, TCM and acupuncture experts, government officials, and industry representatives to engage in academic discussions on the latest research progress in acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine. The WFAS 2025 International Acupuncture Symposium was successfully held in Stockholm, Sweden, from September 19 to 21, 2025.

Academic Presentation That Captivated the Audience
In the special academic session, Dr. Decheng Chen and Jessie Chen delivered a keynote presentation titled “Theoretical Innovations and Clinical Practice of Motion Acupuncture.” They systematically elaborated on the therapy’s core theoretical framework and technical features. Beginning with modern research on fascia theory, they provided an in-depth analysis of the unique advantages of Motion Acupuncture in treating fascial adhesions, soft tissue pain, and motor dysfunction.
By showcasing several carefully selected difficult cases — including chronic neck and shoulder pain resistant to conventional treatments and stubborn lower back and leg pain — they vividly demonstrated the therapy’s remarkable effectiveness in resolving complex pain conditions and promoting rapid functional recovery. Their rigorous academic arguments and innovative treatment approach sparked deep reflection and lively discussion among the attendees.

Live Demonstration Astonishes the Audience
The most exciting part of the presentation was undoubtedly the live clinical demonstration. Dr. Decheng Chen randomly selected several volunteer participants on site. One of them, an experienced TCM practitioner, had been suffering from frozen shoulder for several years, unable to lift his arm. With just one Motion Acupuncture needle, Dr. Chen enabled him to raise his arm overhead immediately. The audience responded with enthusiastic applause.
The participant, who had long been troubled by shoulder pain, expressed his excitement after the treatment: “The pain has almost completely disappeared, and I can freely lift my arm. The instant effect is simply unbelievable!”

Another case involved a foreign female participant who had long suffered from low back pain and was unable to bend forward. With just one Motion Acupuncture needle from Dr. Decheng Chen, she was immediately able to bend down and touch the floor with both hands. “Amazing!” she exclaimed. Everyone present — both Chinese and international attendees — was astonished, as they had never witnessed acupuncture producing such rapid effects.

Another case involved a senior local acupuncturist who had long suffered from restricted movement due to chronic low back pain. Both forward flexion and backward extension were severely limited. She had been diagnosed in Western medicine with a lumbar disc herniation and even underwent surgery, but her condition never fully improved. Her lower back remained stiff and weak on a daily basis. Seeing the remarkable effects of Motion Acupuncture, she volunteered to experience it herself.
Dr. Decheng Chen applied the treatment from the abdominal approach, needling the psoas muscle with just one needle each at the abdomen and the inguinal region near the lesser trochanter. Immediately, her forward and backward bending of the waist improved significantly, drawing another round of warm applause from the audience.
Among all the parallel sessions, this room was by far the most lively, filled with applause, laughter, and cheers. WFAS President Prof. Baoyan Liu and President of the Swedish Association of Chinese Acupuncture, Prof. Chunguì Yang, were both present, showing great interest in the demonstration. Everyone witnessed firsthand the extraordinary therapeutic effects of Motion Acupuncture.

Motion Acupuncture demonstrates remarkable advantages in pain management. Whether for acute or chronic pain, as long as it is related to soft tissue injury, Motion Acupuncture treatment is almost always immediately effective. At this conference, witnessed by hundreds of experts, its exquisite techniques and unimaginable therapeutic results were vividly showcased.

A Swedish expert remarked that Dr. Decheng Chen’s technique was light yet precise, with the needle instantly reaching the lesion upon insertion. Combined with his original dynamic assessment and treatment methods, patients experienced significant pain relief and marked improvement in joint range of motion within just a few minutes — truly incredible.

Fruitful Achievements in Technical Exchange
The successful demonstration of Motion Acupuncture not only brought an outstanding technical showcase to the international acupuncture community, but also sparked heated discussions on innovation in acupuncture techniques and their clinical applications. Many experts expressed that Motion Acupuncture, by integrating the wisdom of traditional acupuncture with modern fascia theory, offers a brand-new perspective and method for pain management.
Professor Anderson, President of the European Acupuncture Association, commented after the session: “Dr. Chen’s presentation of Motion Acupuncture represents an important direction in acupuncture innovation. Its immediate effectiveness and reproducibility are truly impressive, providing valuable experience for clinical practice worldwide.”
Motion Acupuncture was also honored with the “Outstanding Paper Award” at the symposium — a distinction achieved by only two representatives from the United States at this year’s conference.

Advancing the International Development of Acupuncture
It is worth noting that this demonstration placed particular emphasis on academic dialogue with international colleagues. During the presentation, Dr. Decheng Chen’s team not only explained the key technical points in detail, but also engaged in in-depth exchanges with experts on professional topics such as procedural standards and indications. This open and sharing academic attitude won unanimous praise from the participants.
Many international scholars expressed their hope to carry out more collaborations and research in this field in the future. Leaders from the acupuncture associations of Sweden, Singapore, Australia, and Taiwan all invited Dr. Chen to further collaborate with them to promote and expand the Motion Acupuncture technique.

The successful presentation of Motion Acupuncture on the international stage signifies that the innovative achievements of traditional Chinese medicine are gaining global recognition for their unique clinical value. Dr. Decheng Chen remarked: “We will continue to advance research on Motion Acupuncture, promote its standardization and internationalization, and allow this effective therapy to benefit more patients worldwide.”

Throughout the symposium, the Motion Acupuncture exhibition booth was constantly crowded, with acupuncture practitioners from around the world eager to learn and inquire about the therapy — a vivid demonstration of its strong global appeal. With the continued advancement of international academic exchange, Motion Acupuncture is destined to leave a remarkable chapter in the history of global acupuncture development.
