The International Society of Holistic and Integrative Medicine Established in Xi’an, China——Motion Acupuncture Shines Bright

[Xi’an, China] — On October 18, 2025, the 2025 CACA Northwest Acupuncture and Oncology Conference and the Founding Ceremony of the International Society of Holistic and Integrative Medicine were held at the Xi’an International Convention Center in ShanXi Province. The conference was hosted by the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association and the China Academy of Integrative Medicine Development Strategy, under the initiative and leadership of Academician DaiMing Fan of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

The event brought together leading experts, scholars, and medical professionals from across China in the fields of oncology prevention and treatment. It featured one main forum and multiple sub-forums, conducted both online and onsite, with over 20 million online viewers participating.

On the afternoon of October 18, the 2025 CACA Northwest Integrative Oncology Conference was held concurrently with the founding ceremony of the International Society of Holistic and Integrative Medicine. The society is composed of leading global experts in the field of integrative medicine, with Academician Daiming Fan of the Chinese Academy of Engineering serving as the President. Its 31 executive council members are all internationally renowned specialists.

The mission of the newly established society is to promote the philosophy and practice of integrative medicine on a global scale. The International Society of Holistic and Integrative Medicine is dedicated to uniting the most advanced knowledge, technologies, and clinical experience from all fields of medicine to form a new medical system grounded in a holistic view of life — one that transcends the traditional boundaries of medical specialization.

Dr. Decheng Chen attended the conference as a representative of the American TCM Acupuncture Inheritance Association and delivered an English-language presentation titled “Fascial Foundations of Motion Acupuncture in the Treatment of Soft Tissue Pain.”

Coinciding with the publication of Motion Acupuncture Medicine, the book features a foreword written by Academician Daiming Fan. During the conference, Dr. Decheng Chen presented a copy of the book to Academician Fan, who highly praised it as “a model of integrative medicine.” He commended the work for establishing the theoretical system of Motion Acupuncture Medicine by combining the traditional meridian–muscle theory of Chinese medicine with modern scientific knowledge of human fascial anatomy and myology.

After Dr. Decheng Chen’s presentation, several attendees requested a live clinical demonstration. A chief surgeon from a well-known provincial tertiary hospital volunteered to receive treatment for his long-standing frozen shoulder, which had caused persistent pain and functional limitation. With just one Motion Acupuncture needle inserted beneath the armpit, the surgeon was immediately able to raise his left arm. The audience burst into astonished applause, with several foreign participants exclaiming repeatedly, “Unbelievable! Magic!”—amazed by the instant and remarkable effect.

Integrative medicine is based on the biological–psychological–social” model, integrating disciplines such as basic medicine, clinical medicine, and preventive medicine to provide more comprehensive health care services. Academician Daiming Fan, regarded as the founder of integrative medicine in China, has long been a driving force in advancing this concept and promoting its development.
