Motion Acupuncture Officially Introduced in Australia, Marking a Distinct Advancement in the Field

[Melbourne] — On October 26–27, 2025, the first Motion Acupuncture Medicine training course was held in Melbourne, marking the technique’s debut on Australian soil. The training was hosted by the Federation of Chinese Medicine & Acupuncture Societies of Australia (FCMA) and attracted practitioners from Melbourne, Sydney, and surrounding regions.

More than 30 doctors and acupuncturists attended, many of whom are highly experienced senior TCM practitioners with decades of clinical practice. Despite their extensive backgrounds, they showed a strong interest in Motion Acupuncture. The oldest participant was 72 years old, whose dedication to continued learning was especially admirable.

During the course, the participants listened with full concentration, keeping their eyes fixed on Dr. Chen for fear of missing any valuable information or key concepts. They actively raised questions, clarified uncertainties, and practiced hands-on techniques while quietly repeating the essential principles and mnemonic phrases of Motion Acupuncture.

Dr. Decheng Chen, M.D. (China), is the inventor and founder of Motion Acupuncture. He is a licensed acupuncturist in the United States, President of the American TCM Acupuncture Inheritance Association, Professor at the New York College of Health Professions, Director of the New York Natural Acupuncture & Wellness Center, and Director of the WFAS New York TCM Acupuncture Heritage Base.

Dr. Chen previously served as an Associate Chief Physician at the Institute of Acupuncture and Moxibustion, China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences in Beijing. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Changchun University of Chinese Medicine and his doctorate in medicine from Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine. Since relocating to the United States in 2001, he has focused on clinical practice and education, accumulating 40 years of experience in acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine.

He has authored or co-authored 20 Chinese and English monographs, including Single-Point Acupuncture Therapy, Motion Acupuncture Therapy, and Motion Acupuncture Medicine.

Motion Acupuncture Medicine is a therapeutic system that centers on the soft-tissue concept of “jin”—including fascia, tendons, ligaments, aponeuroses, and other connective tissues. Its primary techniques involve “needle anchoring with lifting-and-swaying” and “dynamic needle retention.”

The method identifies Motion Points through palpation and applies shallow or moderate- depth needling at these points. Treatment is combined with the patient’s active or passive movement, allowing the mechanical pulling of motion and the stimulation of the needle to work synergistically. This approach releases fascial adhesions, relaxes tension bands, restores myofascial chain balance, and rapidly improves myofascial pain and movement dysfunction.

During the live demonstration session, Dr. Chen selected volunteer cases at random as recommended by the participants. With each treatment, the room frequently erupted in cheers and applause, as attendees were astonished by the remarkable and immediate effects of Motion Acupuncture. Many expressed their amazement with comments such as “unexpected,” “unbelievable,” and “incredible.” These impressive outcomes unfolded right before the eyes of the participants, with clear pre- and post-treatment comparisons observed through dynamic functional testing.

One senior practitioner remarked to Dr. Chen with emotion that although many visiting experts had given lectures in Australia over the years, he had never witnessed an acupuncture method with such striking and immediate results.

This visit also marked Dr. Chen’s first time in Australia. Deeply moved by the reception, he expressed his gratitude for the enthusiasm and trust shown by Australian colleagues, affirming his commitment to sharing the most current advancements of Motion Acupuncture with practitioners in Australia.
