Personal Experience & Biography

Cheng is a licensed acupuncturist and practitioner in the state of Pennsylvania with a Traditional Chinese Medicine, Western Medicine and biomedical science educational background. He is also a member of the adjunct clinical faculty at The Won Institute of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. He works as a clinical supervisor for graduate students at the Oriental Medicine program. From 1994 to 1999, he spent 5 years studying at Hunan University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the foundation of Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine philosophies. Then he finished one year of residency training at the Department of Acupuncture and Tuina in the first hospital of Hunan University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. In June 1999, he received his Medical Doctoral degree. Subsequently, he finished his PhD program at the Xiangya Medical School. In Jan 2006, he moved to the United States and finished postdoctoral training at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, University of Pennsylvania. He has published several top peer-reviewed papers in Blood, Journal of Clinical Investigation, etc. Based on his more than ten years of experience in Traditional Chinese Medicine and biomedicine research, he has his own concept about life and science.

He also has more than ten years of experience in Chinese Tuina and Taichi. Tuina is a kind of therapeutic acupressure that is a very important part of Traditional Chinese Medicine, including plenty of hand skills with Qigong and Daoyin skills. It is very useful in the treatment of many chronic pain and physical diseases. He is also the 14th generation of Chen-style Taichi. Taichi can improve patient’s balance, inner organ function, and spirit balance. He is also good at teaching patients to recover with some simple and useful self-exercise skills which can reduce the patient’s healthcare costs a lot. Cheng is very passionate about teaching the Eastern culture philosophy that involves natural drug free therapy to the Western world.
