On the afternoon of December 11, 2025, a distinctive academic lecture was successfully held at Changchun Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Hosted by the Changchun Municipal Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the event aimed to promote and advance the clinical application of the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) appropriate technique known as Motion Acupuncture Therapy.
In order to strengthen grassroots TCM service capacity and further disseminate safe, effective, and easy-to-learn therapeutic techniques, the “Clinical Application of Motion Acupuncture” training program was specially organized, attracting widespread attention from local medical professionals.

The training program specially invited internationally renowned acupuncture expert Dr. Decheng Chen to return to his hometown and provide free instruction on Motion Acupuncture techniques to local medical professionals. The course systematically introduced the medical theory, needling techniques, and clinical applications of Motion Acupuncture in pain management, offering participants both comprehensive knowledge and practical guidance.
Medical professionals attending the on-site training primarily came from medical institutions at all levels across Changchun, including multiple top-tier tertiary hospitals as well as community health centers. Due to venue capacity limitations, registration was restricted to no more than eight participants from each county or city district and no more than four participants from each development zone. Ultimately, more than 150 healthcare professionals from diverse specialties—including acupuncture, tuina, rehabilitation medicine, orthopedics, and soft tissue injury treatment—gathered for this landmark academic exchange.

Changchun holds special significance in Dr. Chen’s medical journey, as it marks the very beginning of his career and carries the memories of his youthful studies and aspirations. Throughout the training, Dr. Chen delivered his lectures with remarkable passion and meticulous detail, frequently drawing enthusiastic applause and admiration from the audience.
During live demonstrations, attending physicians witnessed firsthand the rapid and remarkable clinical effects of Motion Acupuncture—with patients experiencing swift pain relief, as well as significant improvements in limb and joint mobility, in some cases even returning to near-normal function.

With more than four decades of clinical experience in both China and abroad, Dr. Chen developed this distinctive therapeutic system by integrating the Meridian–Tendon theory of the Huangdi Neijing with modern muscle anatomy, fascial science, and kinesiology.
The core innovation of Motion Acupuncture lies in its departure from the traditional static needling approach. Instead, it emphasizes dynamic needle retention combined with guided movement, allowing patients to actively engage in motion while the needles remain in place—thereby achieving faster and more effective therapeutic outcomes.

The most impactful segment of the lecture was undoubtedly the live clinical demonstration. Dr. Chen invited physicians from the audience who were experiencing neck, shoulder, lower back, and limb pain to come on stage. Following dynamic functional assessment, more than one hundred attendees collectively selected the participant with the most severe movement restriction. Dr. Chen, together with his disciples, then performed a live Motion Acupuncture treatment demonstration, offering the audience an extraordinary and compelling clinical showcase.

Case 1:
A physician presenting with neck pain and stiffness, accompanied by restricted flexion, extension, and rotational movement.

The participant had long been troubled by chronic neck pain and stiffness, with markedly restricted mobility. Rather than immediately inserting needles, Dr. Decheng Chen first conducted a systematic dynamic functional assessment. After identifying the primary pain complaints, he guided the patient through active neck movements in all directions while performing skilled palpation. This process quickly pinpointed the key “responsible muscles”—the scalene muscles and the sternocleidomastoid muscle—as the primary sources of dysfunction.

Dr. Chen then applied Motion Acupuncture’s signature “Three-Step Integrated Assessment Protocol” to precisely locate the Motion Points within the scalene muscles and the levator scapulae. Using specialized Motion Acupuncture techniques, he performed needle anchoring with controlled traction and dynamic needle retention to release the dysfunctional tissues.

Case 2:
A physician presenting with shoulder pain and restricted range of motion due to adhesive capsulitis (frozen shoulder).

The second volunteer participant had been medically diagnosed with adhesive capsulitis (frozen shoulder), presenting with significant adhesion of the right shoulder joint and pronounced restriction in flexion, abduction, extension, and internal rotation.
Through guided execution of specific movements designed to reproduce the patient’s pain—combined with precise palpatory examination—Dr. Decheng Chen rapidly identified the underlying pathological source as the long head tendon of the triceps brachii.


During the treatment, Dr. Chen selected a specialized three-inch Motion Acupuncture needle and inserted it with precision through the patient’s axillary region, directly reaching the pathological attachment site of the long head of the triceps brachii at the infraglenoid tubercle.
Most crucially, after needle insertion, Dr. Chen personally guided the patient through slow, continuous shoulder movements while the needle remained in place. As the needle produced a mechanical release effect on the surrounding fascial tissues, the patient’s active movement simultaneously enhanced local circulation and tissue recovery, creating a powerful synergistic therapeutic response.


Within just a few minutes, the patient’s shoulder range of motion expanded dramatically, producing an immediate and striking therapeutic effect. The outcome vividly embodied the core philosophy of Motion Acupuncture:
“When the needle moves with motion, healing follows.”
This powerful moment brought the principle of “treatment through integrated needling and movement” to life before the audience’s eyes.
Case 3: Low Back Pain — A High-Level Demonstration of Advanced Diagnostic Reasoning

The third volunteer participant presented with chronic low back pain. Following Dr. Chen’s meticulous assessment of posture and movement, the true source of the pain was revealed to lie not within the lumbar region itself, but in the anterior hip musculature, including the iliopsoas and quadriceps, as well as pathological tension within the tensor fasciae latae and iliotibial band, which together produced significant biomechanical compensation and stress on the lower back.

Dr. Chen precisely selected treatment points in the inguinal region, where he used a three-inch needle to deeply release the tense iliopsoas muscle, while simultaneously guiding the patient through active movement with the needle in place. He then added a supplementary needle at the tensor fasciae latae.
As the targeted muscles gradually released, the patient’s lumbar discomfort diminished significantly, demonstrating once again the powerful diagnostic and therapeutic precision of Motion Acupuncture.

Using this case as a teaching moment, Dr. Decheng Chen offered a profound reflection to his colleagues:
“While the techniques of Motion Acupuncture can be learned relatively quickly, the diagnostic reasoning behind them requires long-term refinement. True clinical mastery lies in the ability—through repeated practice—to accurately determine where the pathology lies, how many needles are needed, and what therapeutic outcome can be expected. This is a journey of cultivation from technique to principle.”
His words elevated the already enthusiastic learning atmosphere to a deeper level of professional contemplation and clinical insight, leaving a lasting impression on all who attended.
Case 4: Chronic Knee Injury — Persistent Pain with Difficulty Squatting Despite Long-Term Treatment
The fourth participant was a physically active young adult who regularly engaged in fitness training and running. Due to sports-related injury, the patient suffered from significant knee joint damage, more severe on the left side, with intense pain during movement and walking.
Using the “Three-Step Integrated Assessment Protocol,” Dr. Chen observed a marked limitation in the patient’s ability to squat. He then placed one needle in the inguinal region and another at the pes anserinus tendon, applying needle anchoring with controlled traction in combination with guided movement with the needle in place.
Immediately following the treatment, the patient’s squatting range improved dramatically, and overall functional mobility was significantly restored.

Dr. Zhang, President of Changchun Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, remarked that mastering Motion Acupuncture would enable clinicians to better serve their patients and strongly encouraged hospital staff to study the technique with dedication. This public-interest lecture and live clinical demonstration were not only a high-level academic exchange, but also a deeply moving homecoming—an accomplished physician returning to his roots to give back to the community that shaped him. Many participants expressed with great enthusiasm their determination to master this powerful therapeutic method.
Even after the practical session concluded, numerous attendees remained at the venue, fully immersed in the visual impact and intellectual inspiration brought by the therapy, reluctant to leave. The four live treatment cases unfolded like a dynamic clinical classroom, vividly showcasing Motion Acupuncture’s defining features: dynamic diagnosis, targeted release, and immediate therapeutic results. Beyond technical demonstration, the event conveyed a profound treatment philosophy—one that integrates classical medical wisdom with modern anatomy, emphasizes functional assessment, and actively engages patient participation.
Ultimately, this was more than a display of technique; it was an in-depth intellectual exploration of precise diagnosis, holistic intervention, and collaborative patient–physician care, leaving every participant with lasting clinical insight and vast new horizons for future practice.
